About us

Our Story

Welcome to Mulat Tsega Elder Support! Our story begins in Gondar, Ethiopia, where our family’s tradition of caring for those in need has been passed down through generations. Growing up, we watched our parents and grandparents open their hearts and homes to elderly neighbors and relatives, offering them food, companionship, and a sense of belonging. Though we are not a religious organization, our inception is deeply rooted in our Christian faith. We believe that serving others, especially our elders, is one of the most meaningful ways we can follow Jesus’ example of love and kindness. For us, caring for the elderly isn’t just a responsibility—it’s a privilege. It’s a way to honor those who came before us and to ensure they feel valued and loved.

Our organization is named after two incredible people: Mulat “Baba” Taddesse and Tsega “Nanay”  Tafete, the founders’ father and mother. They are shining examples of what it means to care for others selflessly. Even during tough times when resources were scarce, Baba and Nanay always found a way to share what little they had with the elderly in the community, making sure no one went hungry or felt forgotten. Their acts of kindness weren’t just gestures—they were a way of life, and their compassion left a lasting mark on future generations.

As the founders saw more and more elders in Ethiopia struggling with the same challenges their parents once helped ease, they felt called to do something bigger. They wanted to take the love and support their family had been giving for years and extend it even further. That’s how Mulat Tsega Elder Support came to life, to ensure that no elder is left behind and that every elder receives the care, dignity, and respect they deserve.

Our organization is more than just a nonprofit—it’s a deeply personal mission. It’s about continuing the legacy of Baba and Nanay, who showed us all what it means to live with compassion. Every day, the work we do is driven by that same spirit, turning a family tradition into a movement that’s making a difference for elders starting in Gondar and one day all across Ethiopia and the world!

Our Mission

Our mission at Mulat Tsega Elder Support is to provide compassionate care and support to elders in Ethiopia, ensuring they live with dignity, respect, and a sense of belonging. Through community-driven initiatives, we aim to honor the wisdom and contributions of our elders by addressing their physical, emotional, and social needs, continuing the tradition of service rooted in our family’s values.

Our Vision

Our vision is to create a future where every elder in Ethiopia lives with dignity, comfort, and the care they deserve. We envision a society that values its elderly, providing them with the resources, respect, and support they need to thrive. By fostering a community rooted in compassion and service, we aim to inspire others to join us in building a world where all elders are empowered, their contributions are celebrated, and their well-being is always a priority.

OUR JOURNEY

2006
In the beginning...

We started by sending money directly to Mulat Taddesse to support his efforts in helping those in need. This was done as a family initiative, without any formal organizational structure.

2012

After Mulat Taddesse’s passing, we continued his legacy by sending financial support to other family members who carried on his mission of caring for the community that had come to rely on him.

2022

We established the Mulate Tsega Elder Support nonprofit to formally organize and expand these efforts. This allowed us to develop the program further and provide sustainable support to the elderly in a structured capacity.
