Volunteer Opportunities
Fundraising Events
Support us by participating in our fundraising events. You can help by preparing meals, donating food, or knitted items to be sold at the events. Every contribution makes a difference in supporting our elders.
Grant Applications
If you’re aware of grants we could apply for, or have experience in writing grant applications, we’d love your assistance. Additionally, if you know of other funding opportunities or can help make introductions, your support would be invaluable.
Other Ways to Help
Spread The Word
Help us raise awareness by sharing our mission with your network. The more people who know about our organization, the more impact we can have. Share our story on social media, with friends, or at community events.
In-Kind Donations
Donate your gently used clothing, blankets, towels, shoes, and accessories. We hold events to collect and ship these items to our facilities in Gondar, Ethiopia, where they are distributed to elders in need.
Questions?
80% of all donations directly fund food and essential materials needed for cooking for the elders. The remaining 20% covers our operational costs, which include salaries for two cooks, one security guard, and one administrator.
The local district office identifies elders in need based on their own criteria. They refer eligible elders to our facility in Gondar, either by providing their names to our administrator or by personally accompanying them for an introduction.
Elders live in their own homes and come to our facility for lunch, where they can enjoy a communal Ethiopian coffee ceremony and socialize. They take dinner to go afterward. If an elder is unable to come in person, a family member can pick up their meal. If there is no one to assist, we send volunteers to deliver food and check on their well-being.
To fund these services, Mulate Tsega Elder Support hosts an annual fundraising event during the Ethiopian New Year on September 11th. The funds raised are sent to our team of dedicated administrative volunteers in Gondar, most of whom are family members volunteering their time.
